The locality has brought under the purview of Greater Chennai Corporation. As a result, lots of infrastructure projects have been planned. The civic amenities have also improved. This locality is sharing its boundaries with Saligramam, Koyambedu, MMDA Colony, Mogappair, Vanagaram, Valasaravakkam, Maduravoyal, Ayyapakkam, Anna Nagar, T Nagar, Alwartirunagar, Porur, Vadapalani, Kodambakkam among others. Lambert Nagar, Ayyavupuram, Ganpat Raj Nagar, Chinmaya Nagar, Shanmuga Nagar, AVM Colony, Elango Nagar, Devraj Nagar are some of the largest colonies comes within Virugambakkam.
